# Browsing History Source: https://metadock.app/docs/history # Browsing history Every page you visit in a MetaDock browser is recorded locally, tagged with the profile you were using. That is what makes the address bar guess well, and it is what lets you answer “what was that page I had open under the client profile last Tuesday?” without opening five browsers. ## How do I open my browsing history? Press **Ctrl+H**. History opens as a dock inside your layout rather than as a separate window, so you can tile it beside the browser you are working in without losing your place. It is saved and restored with the workspace like any other dock. ## How do I browse history by date or profile? The left rail groups your history into time buckets, and a dropdown scopes the list to one profile: Control and What it does Control What it does Today / Yesterday The last day or two, for finding something you just closed Last 7 days / Last 30 days The usual "sometime last week" window Older Everything before that Profile filter Show one profile's visits, or All profiles The list itself shows the time, page title, host, and profile, and you can click any column header to sort by it. Long histories load in pages as you scroll, so opening the dock is instant even after months of use. ## How do I search my history? The search box matches both the page title and the address, and filters as you type. It combines with the date bucket and profile filter, so you can narrow to “pages with ‘invoice’ in them, on the Acme profile, in the last 7 days” in three clicks. ## Does history show up in the address bar? History also feeds the suggestion list in the address bar. Suggestions are ranked by how often you visit a page and how recently, with pages you type out by hand weighted more heavily than pages you reached by clicking a link, so your real destinations float to the top. Address bar suggestions are scoped to the profile of the browser you are typing in. A personal profile does not suggest your work pages. The **Clear history** button opens a small dialog where you pick a range and a profile: - •Last hour: for undoing the last stretch of browsing - •Today: clears the current day - •Last 7 days: clears the past week - •Everything: clears the whole log Because the range is combined with a profile, you can wipe one profile's history without touching the others. For finer control, right-click a row to remove that single visit, or every visit to that address. Warning Clearing history cannot be undone. There is no trash or recovery step. ## What is and is not recorded in history? Successful navigations in ordinary profiles are recorded, and nothing else. Temporary profiles write no history at all, internal browser pages and local files are skipped, and pages that failed to load never enter the log. Everything stays in a local database on your PC. - •Temporary profiles record nothing: a temporary profile is MetaDock's private browsing: no history is written for it at all - •Internal pages are skipped: browser settings pages, local files, and extension pages never enter the log - •Only successful navigations count: a page that failed to load is not recorded - •It stays on your machine: history is stored in MetaDock's local database on your PC and is never uploaded If you want a session that leaves no trace at all, open a [temporary profile](https://metadock.app/docs/profiles) instead of clearing history afterwards. ## What else should I know about history? Every MetaDock browser writes into one history tagged by profile, rather than keeping a separate log each.
