Keyboard Shortcuts

MetaDock is designed to be keyboard-first. Learn these shortcuts and you'll rarely need the mouse.

Every shortcut listed here is customizable. Go to Settings → Keyboard Shortcuts to rebind anything.

Which shortcuts control layouts and workspaces?

These control your workspace, layouts, and the overall MetaDock interface. The most important ones to learn first are Ctrl+K (URL bar), Ctrl+S (save), and Ctrl+Shift+W(switch workspace). Note that Ctrl+K and Ctrl+O are two bindings for the same command: both toggle the layout's floating URL bar.

Which shortcuts open settings?

Ctrl+, opens settings. Once you are in, Ctrl+F focuses the search box, Escape clears it, and Ctrl+Up and Ctrl+Down move between categories without touching the mouse.

Video player panel

The video player has its own full set of bindings, including bare letter keys that only apply while a player is focused. They are listed on the Video Player page.

Shortcuts are dispatched to whichever panel is focused, so the same key can do different things in a browser, a docked app (Beta), or the video player (Beta). Rebind any of them under Settings → Keyboard Shortcuts.

Memorize these 5 shortcuts first and you'll cover most of what you do in a day: Ctrl+K (URL bar), Ctrl+S (save workspace), Ctrl+Shift+W (switch workspace), F9 (lock layout), and Ctrl+D (bookmark).
